Below are statistics that are pertinent to domestic violence, intimate partner violence, and missing, murdered Native Hawaiian women, girls, and Māhū.  Download the stat card here for quick reference.

Hawaiʻi Statistics

These are the most recent domestic violence statistics as of 2022.


of adults who experience physical violence by an intimate partner in Hawaiʻi are Native (HHDW, BRFSS, 2013). 


of Native Hawaiian women between 18 to 29 years old report experiencing IPV, compared to 13.3% of non-Hawaiian women of the same age range (OHA, 2018).


of Native Hawaiian women between 30 to 44 years old report experiencing IPV, compared to 13.3% of non-Hawaiian women of the same age range (OHA, 2018).  


of Native Hawaiian women between 45 and 59 years old report experiencing IPV, compared to 12.60% of non-Hawaiian women (OHA, 2018).


of domestic violence survivors filing for a Temporary Restraining Order (TRO) were Native Hawaiian (OHA et al., 2020).

The average profile of a missing child: 15 year old, female, Native Hawaiian, missing from O‘ahu (Cristobal, 2022).


of missing girls in Hawaiʻi are Native Hawaiian (Cristobal, 2022).


of those arrested for soliciting sex from minor online are active-duty military personnel arrested through Operation Keiki Shield (Cristobal, 2022).

Of the 8.6% of high school students who reported being physically abused by an intimate partner in the past 12 months, 10.4% are Kānaka Maoli female, higher than the national average and higher than Kānaka Maoli males and females of other ethnicities (YRBS, 2019).

Domestic violence is the leading cause of homelessness for women and children (NNEDV, 2017).


of Oʻahu’s homeless Kānaka Maoli population report experiencing intimate partner violence compared to 18% of non-Kānaka Maoli. Of the 22%, 14% are unsheltered compared to 11% of non-Kānaka Maoli (OHA et al., 2020).
